Project-based learning programme wins another award The construction of the curriculum system of Yinghua Regular High School reaches a new level

On January 16, 2023, the elective course "Charming Reed Stands - Exploring the Comprehensive Utilisation of Reed Sticks in Yongding River Wetland" designed and developed by Gao Yanxiu, a chemistry teacher of Yinghua Regular High School, won the first prize of the Second National Science and Creativity Project-Based Learning Programme at the national level. This is also the first prize at the national level of the "5th STEM Education Project-based Learning Programme" and the "2021 International StarT Project-based Learning Competition" after the interdisciplinary elective course "Wetland Conservation of the Yongding River Wetland" designed by teachers Zhang Huan, Chen Chao and Liu Peihua won the first prize at the national level of the "5th STEM Education Project-based Learning Programme" and the top ten in the world of the "International StarT Project-based Learning Competition" in 2021. "After winning the first prize of the 5th STEM Education Project-based Learning and the top ten in the world in the International StarT Project-based Learning Awards 2021, the PUC has made another breakthrough in the project-based learning programme. Sponsored by the Youth Science and Technology Centre of the China Association for Science and Technology and other units, this programme collection activity received a total of 688 projects from all over China covering the whole academic period from pre-school to high school, and 54 first-prize projects were selected by experts, including 12 projects in the high school section.

By fully exploring the local resources of Wuqing District, Tianjin, and starting from the challenging theme of "Exploring the comprehensive utilisation of reed poles in Yongding River Wetland", each group submitted an experiment report entitled "Experimentally investigating the impact of dried reed poles on river water quality" and a literature review entitled "Exploring the solution of reed resource utilisation: product design and energy development". Each group submitted an experimental report entitled "Experimental investigation of the effect of dried reedstalks on river water quality" and a literature review entitled "Exploration of reed resource utilisation options: product design and energy development".

Through the learning of this course, at the macro level, students can transfer classroom knowledge to practice, and exercise their experimental operation skills and literature research and integration abilities; at the micro level, through experimental investigation, group cooperation and other learning methods, students can experience the whole process of scientific investigation, and develop their higher-order thinking skills, such as practice, innovation, problem solving, decision-making and critical thinking, which can help to connect with the students of YINGHUA from multiple dimensions. In the portrait of students, the dimensions of "mission-bearer", "youthful striver", "rational thinker" and "problem-solver" have been developed. and "problem solver" in the portrait of Yinghua students.
